Japan-based Odia engineer completes 6 major marathons

Bhubaneswar: A 57-year-old Odia engineer from Yokohama, Japan, ran a marathon over a 42.2km stretch in Boston, US, on Monday. With this, he has completed in six major marathons across the world.Tathagata Sahoo said he started running marathon after he was diagnosed with Type-2 diabetes. “I started walking gradually before progressing to long-distance running,” Sahoo said.Over the years, Tathagata took part in Tokyo (2019), New York City (2023), Berlin (2024), London (2025), Chicago (2025) and now Boston (2026). He ran the Tokyo Marathon again this year, besides taking part in several races across Japan to help build his endurance.In Boston, he was accompanied by his 17-year-old son, Mikul, who suffers from Down syndrome, and ran the 5k. “Running started as a personal transformation, but with my son, it has become something much more meaningful — a journey we can share together,” said Tathagata.The father-son duo had run the Chicago marathon together in Oct 2025. Mikul was excited as he was running in Boston, another city. “For me, Boston was a bit tough as the route is challenging even for professionals,” said Tathagata.
